Energy Audits

Blower Door Test

A blower door is a simple test that gives you an enormous amount of information about the efficiency of your house. We can tell you how leaky the building shell is and the areas that can be signifigantly improved. It is also helpful in determinaing the quality of the air in your building.

Duct Leakage Test

A Duct leakage test can tell you many things about your ducts. One of the most important is how much of your conditioned air is leaking to the outdoors.

Thermal Imaging

We use an infared camera to assess weak spots in the buildings thermal enevelope and where the insulation can be improved.

Combustion Safety Test

Combustion appliances are an essential part of any building. They are however infrequently inspected for safe operation. When they are in use they produce Carbon Monoxide which needs to be vented to the outside. In our energy audits we ensure that they are venting properly under any conditions.

There are many opportunities for using solar panels in the Mid-Atlantic region. The electric is generated by the sun's rays, not heat. This means that there is the potential to produce some or all of a building's energy needs year round. Panels can be installed in a number of locations and there is the possibility to install them out of sight.

Solar Hot Water

There are different options of solar hot water heating systems. One is a direct heating system that uses electricity from solar panels to heat water in a tank. A passive option is also available that uses the sun's rays to heat water in a storage tank.

Geothermal Energy

Geothermal is an excellent option to reduce to dependence of electricity to condition indoor air. The geothermal pump uses heat beneath the ground for temperature control. These systems are very versatile. They can be used for heat in the winter and cooling in the summer. It is also possible to heat water for faucets and pools.

Rain Water Collection

Landscaping

Using rain water for landscaping has many benefits. It can be collected easily and then used on demand to water plants, lawns, vegetable gardens and flowers. The reserve water not only reduces reliance, but it full of nutrients for your landscape that are much better than municipal water.

In-home Use

It is possible to use collected rain water to offset your dependence on a municipal supply. The water can be used to fill toilets with very little maintenance. There are also systems that will store and treat the water so that it is drinkable. This can be especially helpful for buildings that rely on underground wells.

Storm Water Management

There are opportunities to help the environment by collecting rain water even if you do not intend to use it. By collecting the water after a rain you reduce the strain on sewer systems that are often pushed to their limits. Storing the water and slowly releasing it is much better for your community's infrastructure.
